We've all heard about how dogs and their owners begin to morph into similar looking creatures after a certain amount of time. Check out these STELLAR looking couples Bored Panda post !
After seeing this phenomenon, it should come as no surprise that many of the things that impact human health are the same things that impact our furry friends' health.
1.Maintaining a healthy weight can mean decreased joint stress and pain, and increased energy. Talk to your pet's veterinarian for advice on how to reach and maintain a healthy weight for your pet.
2.Exercise is a great way to spend time with your pet while providing them the opportunity to burn off some energy while keeping their heart and lungs working as best as possible.
3. Brushing your pets' teeth can be an interesting experience to say the least... but just like for humans dental care can be a very important aspect to pet health and well being. Brushing your pets' teeth daily can rid them of the plaque that can build up. Keep in mind a professional dental cleaning is recommended for most cats and dogs periodically to prevent tooth loss and damage and nasty infections that cause the bad breath, pain and even weight loss that can occur with severe cases.
4. Having your pet's nails trimmed can keep them walking, running and playing easily and minimize the risk of long nails getting caught and potentially causing painful and bloody nail rips.
5. Socializing provides the necessary opportunity that your pet, especially dogs, needs to become a mentally and physically balanced pet. Dog parks are a great way to socialize your pet. Just remember to keep your pet on leash until you have determined how they will interact with the other dogs there, even if they have interacted before. This will keep all pets involved safe and happy!
6. Training and enrichment, along with socialization, ensures that your pet knows how to interact with other pets, children and adults. This is essential in preventing dog fights, bites and other negative events from occurring. Enrichment toys/activities including treat filled tennis balls and PVC pipes, create opportunities for dogs and cats (depending on your feline's preference of toys) to play and bat around the toy in an attempt to access the treats inside. This is both physically and mentally stimulating to the pet.
7. Ticks and cheat grass checks, heart worm prevention, de-worming for parasites, and vaccinations are all part of disease prevention for your furry friends. Prevention, like with human disease, is the easiest option for your pet and, often time, the cheapest option for you, the owner. From monthly tablets for flea, tick and heart worm prevention to two-three vaccinations given annually or bi-annually, prevention of devastating diseases is easy and simple for owners and can mean the world to pets.
